Spring Break

Is anyone else overjoyed that it’s FINALLY Spring Break?! I don’t know about you, but I think the week long breaks during school are meant more for the parents than they are the kids. I know this Mama needs these breaks. Right now, we are living an hour away from the kids’ school. Four hours of driving every day is more than enough for me. I’m not a fan of sitting in the car as it is, so the drive is wearing on me. Thankfully, the drive will be getting shorter starting this week. We will be moving out of this house and back into my in-laws’ house this week.

I love having all my kids home together. I think it makes us feel more like a family. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy the days where they are off learning new things and exploring (supervised, of course) the world, but I definitely enjoy having everyone together. It makes my world happy and complete. At least until they start arguing and trying to kill each other. We’ll save those moments for another post.

It scares the life out of me to think that they will be on their own within a few short years, but I do know that it’s a necessary evil. Our oldest daughter turned nine this year. She takes great joy in rubbing in the fact that in nine years she will be 18 and graduating. This is where Mommy wants to hide in the closet and cry. Why are children so eager to grow up?! I remember being the same way when I was young. I still wonder why I wanted to grow up so fast. Now all I want is to be a kid again! It was so much easier! My husband always tells me that I should be like him. He still hasn’t grown up!

I think part of the reason why I love school breaks is because it helps me to regroup and get slightly organized again. I’m hoping this week off will help me to finish packing and to get caught up on laundry. Do any of you feel like you are drowning in laundry? I get so excited when I finally grab the last few pieces from what was a mountain range of laundry in my hallway, only to come back after starting the washer to find ONE MORE SOCK. Or it could be another armload of laundry someone found under a bed or behind a door. Heaven forbid I ask if they’ve emptied their jiu-jitsu bags! Seriously. Because apparently my only job in life is to wash, dry, fold, and hang laundry.

Do any of you use a planner? I have been using a planner for quite few years now. I can’t say it’s been constant use, but definitely more than casual use. I just ordered a new one the other day, and I’m loving it! I particularly love the fact that it is undated. That means when I forget to use it for a week or two, I can just start right back where I left off. No wasted pages! And I love all the color. It definitely makes the work seem a tiny bit more fun. It even comes with sticky notes and a pen. You can’t get much more “move-in ready” than that! Here is the link to the one I purchased.    me & my BIG ideas BOX-112 Create 365 The Happy Planner Box Kit 12 Month Undated, Big Flower Pop Big       There are quite a few options to pick from, but this is just the one I chose. I am so excited to start using it, and, hopefully, it will help me be way more organized with everything that has to go on around here on a daily basis. It helps to take the stress of as well. I don’t know about you, but I am way less stressed and worried when I have everything written down in a planner so I know I’m not forgetting anything.  I’m pretty excited to work on this! I will try to do a follow up post once I get my planner filled out and organized.

What are some things that you do with your children over Spring Break? Do you have big plans? We don’t go anywhere over Spring Break. Most of the time everyone is so exhausted by the time it gets here, so we end up just staying around the house and relaxing or playing outside. One of the things we have planned for this week is putting together the gingerbread house kits that we didn’t do over Christmas break. Yes. You read that correctly. Gingerbread houses. I bought a kit that I had great intentions to help the kids with over Christmas. It is now March. Are you starting to understand how my blog got its name?? If I can get one thing right per week, I count that as a win! Between Spring Break and my new planner, I’m hoping to have a few more wins this coming week!

I think one of my favorite parts of having my children all together is watching the interactions between them. Right now I’m watching my oldest and youngest play together. My oldest is laying inside a laundry basket with her feet hanging out one end. The baby decided to climb in on top of her. He is sitting on her belly and won’t let her up. She has now gotten the giggles which makes it worse. Her laughing is making him bounce on her stomach. She is getting some belly laughs out of him that I have not heard before. He is loving this! And this Momma is loving it even more. There’s an old phrase that says laughter is the best medicine. It doesn’t clarify if that laughter is your own or someone around you. In this case, it’s my children’s laughter making my heart happy. I love watching these little monkeys!

I hope you all have a wonderful Spring Break and get the rest you need to keep on with the daily grind. Leave me a comment with what you have planned for your break. I would love to hear from you!
